This week, we've been doing a fun animal research project! At the beginning of the week, we learned how to research from the internet, take notes, and cite sources. We spent 2 days in the computer lab working on research. Today, we started writing in our books! The fun part about the book part of the project is taking the notes from the research and writing a book from the perspective of our animal! Our book is much more that basic animal facts - it shows the personality of our animal!
When students come to class on Friday, they should have everything written in their book so we can design our covers and write the table of contents. Students may print/draw pictures at home for their books.
Things to remember:
- the book should be from the animal's perspective (as if the animal were talking about itself)
- each page should have several sentences that include facts (from research notes) as well as the animal's thoughts and feelings (this part is made-up, creative thinking)
- capital letters and punctuation must be used (no run-on sentences, please)
Look at below to see research, writing, and awesome creativity in action!!
Students use the example book as a model for their writing.
