Special Halloween
Project
On Friday, October 31st, you will have the chance
to be someone else for a day!! Pick a character from a book that you have
enjoyed and come dressed up as that character for the day. You will also get to
do an oral presentation about your book character so the class can learn more
about the character and the book!
You will dress up as one of the characters in the book you
have selected. This costume does not need to be elaborate. Be creative!
Look for things you already have, or can borrow, to make/create your costume.
Ideally, you shouldn’t have to buy anything. (Don’t tell your parents
you need to go buy some fancy costume!!!!!!!) Please, no masks.
To help with the presentation, you will do a Book in a Bag
project. You will use a paper lunch sack (this will be provided) to guide you
through your presentation.
FRONT: Draw and color the cover of the book that your character is
in. Make sure this is neatly done and colorful!
BACK: Write the headings Characters, Setting, Plot, Problem, and
Solution. Under each heading, list or write the appropriate information.
SIDES: One side should have your name and the character you have
chosen to dress up as. The other side should have 3-4 sentences explaining why
you chose this particular book.
INSIDE: Include 3-4 items (that fit in the bag) to represent
important characters or events in your story to help retell the story in
sequential order.
You will use your bag and its contents to help guide you through
your presentation of the character you have dressed up as and facts about your
book.
Please practice your presentation at home. An oral
presentation always goes more smoothly if you have practiced what you are going
to say in front of a small audience first. I will be looking for the following
in your presentation to the class:
µ Eye contact (We want to see your eyes,
not the top of your head!)
µ Voice projection (We all need to be
able to hear what you are saying.)
µ Voice Expression (Use expression in
your voice to keep your audience interested in what you are saying. No robot
voices!!)
µ Knowledge of content (We want to learn
about your book and your character! You will use your Book in a Bag to help you
remember all the important facts.)
This is a fun project, but it will also count as a grade. You
will get points on your bag (including everything that is mentioned
above), your presentation, and for dressing up. You have almost a month to
prepare, but I do not want you to squander your time and procrastinate! Therefore, you need to return the bottom
portion to me by Friday, October 10th.
The majority of our day at school on Halloween will be these
exciting presentations! In the afternoon, we will celebrate all your hard work
and the fun holiday with food and a few games. J
Have fun….be
creative…and enjoy! I look forward to seeing you transformed on Halloween!!
